Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for car dumper operations
   • Access, interpret and apply documentation required for ore car dumpers
   • Obtain, interpret and clarify and confirm work requirements before proceeding
   • Identify yard layout limit and locations of derailers
   • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures according to site requirements
   • Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and identify steps required to respond to emergencies
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment according to site requirements
   • Identify locations of emergency stop devices
   • Locate first aid areas
2. Conduct and monitor car dumper operations
   • Communicate work activities with others within scope of own role
   • Assist rail operations to position ore cars in the car dumper according to job requirements
   • Confirm correct plant operation according to job requirements
   • Carry out car dumper prestart checks on all levels according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
   • Conduct prestart checks and plant inspection and identify, rectify and report defects according to site requirements
   • Conduct car dumper operations according to job requirements and manufacturer specifications
   • Respond or report monitoring systems and alarms according to site requirements
   • Monitor and confirm safe operation of ore handling system and equipment
3. Maintain car dumper equipment
   • Carry out rail, plant and equipment isolations according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
   • Carry out routine operational maintenance according to site requirements
   • Inspect and maintain the work area according to site requirements
4. Shutdown car dumper equipment
   • Carry out car dumper shutdown procedures according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
   • Isolate fixed plant and equipment according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
   • Perform post shutdown and isolation checks according to site requirements
   • Return dumper equipment to service according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
   • Provide operator support for maintenance tasks according to site requirements
   • Complete documentation according to site requirements
   • Communicate key job details to relevant personnel according to site requirements

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

operate and monitor ore car dumpers on at least two occasions, including:

completing assessment of yard layout limit and locations of derailers

conducting equipment isolation, inspections and checks

conducting shutting down and isolating car dumpers

identifying locations of emergency stop devices.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply relevant documentation, policies and procedures and confirm work activity is compliant

work effectively with others to operate and monitor ore car dumper and equipment that meets required outcomes, including:

using a range of communications techniques and equipment to convey information to others

maintaining reporting requirements and procedures

communicating to confirm work requirements.
